About the event
Join us for a guided community hike as we explore the landscape of oil and gas production in our county. On this 2.4-mile hike, we’ll make a series of stops to see and learn how the land we move through has been shaped by fossil fuel development — and how communities, ecosystems, and conservation efforts are responding today.
Along the way, we’ll discuss:
The geology that made oil possible here, history of CA and local production, and what local oil and gas is used for
The public health and climate impacts of drilling in local neighborhoods and habitats
Current conversations around land use, climate action, unplugged wells, and our energy transition
The stories of people working to restore and protect these spaces!
This hike is accessible to most experience levels and moves at a conversational pace. There are 3 water crossings that are accessible for most. We’d recommend hiking poles if that would make you feel more confident. Bring water, a snack, comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, and anything else that helps you enjoy time outdoors.
Distance: ~2.4 miles (about 2 hours), with a stop halfway for a snack
Difficulty: Easy–Moderate
What to Bring: Water, hike/trail shoes, sun protection, snack
Date & Time: November 22 at 10am
Meeting Location & Parking: Details will be sent upon RSVP
We only have 25 spots for this hike - please only RSVP if you can make it! If you do RSVP and cannot make it, please cancel your RSVP so that someone on the waitlist can join.
