About the event

This July, we're challenging Ventura residents to shop smarter, waste less, and connect with local businesses. Choose Reuse Ventura is a month-long community initiative that highlights Green-Certified businesses throughout Ventura and encourages you to get involved!

Here's how it works: Pick up a stamp card. Visit participating businesses, ask & learn about their green practices, and collect stamps. Complete your card and turn it in for swag from the City of Ventura — and revel in the satisfaction of knowing you made a difference.

Get your stamp card at:

  • Climate Conversations kickoff at Findings Market (July 1)

  • City of Ventura tabling at Downtown Ventura Farmers Market (July 4 & July 18)

  • Participating businesses (listed below)

  • City of Ventura Environmental Sustainability Office (336 Sanjon Rd, Ventura, CA 93002)

  • Download the stamp card (link coming soon!)

Submit your completed stamp:

  • City of Ventura Environmental Sustainability Office (336 Sanjon Rd, Ventura, CA 93002)

  • Email a photo of your card to the City of Ventura (sustainability@cityofventura.ca.gov) *If you send in your card by email, make sure you plan a time to swing by the City office on Sanjon to grab your goodie bag!

How to get a stamp:

  1. Visit participating businesses (listed below) and inquire about their Green Certification. “Hello, I am participating in the Choose Reuse Ventura initiative - how do I get a stamp?” Potential questions to ask:

    • Tell me about the green practices in your business.

    • Why was it important for you to become a green-certified business?

    • What did you have to change within your business to become green-certified?

    • What does a green certification mean?

    • Why is sustainability important to you and your business?

  2. Make a Plastic-Free Pledge! Try your best to eliminate plastic in specific areas of your life this month. These stamps are on the honor system.

Plastic-Free Pledges:

  • Avoid single-use plastic packaging

  • Target takeaway items (bags, bottles, straws, and cups)

  • Go completely "plastic free"

  • Bring a reusable cup to the coffee shop

  • Use reusable food containers

  • Bring my own shopping bag

  • Slow down and dine in

  • Pack a waste-free lunch

  • Purchase clothes with natural fibers

  • Pick up litter at the beach (or anywhere!)

  • Keep learning about the impact of plastic

  • Choose loose-leaf tea and pod-free coffee

  • Purchase packaging-free food when possible

  • Use shampoo + body wash bars

  • Use solid dish soap and bio-based dish brushes

  • Choose laundry and dish powder instead of pods

  • Replace your makeup wipes with washable face towels
